Poker, a card game of skill and strategy is available online to play for real money! The popularity of online poker continues to grow with players no longer needing to visit poker or casino facilities to play. Players across the globe are now enjoying poker online at all times of day.
One of the core reasons for online poker being so popular is that the game is not left to chance or random number generation luck like many other games. Poker is an intellectual game requiring skills and a strategic mindset. It is still a social activity and in live games you play against real players and have a real dealer. Online poker is a perfect game to play with a group of friends. You can start your own poker tournament without leaving your homes.
Online poker is played on virtual tables with other players; whereas, live poker sites stream games directly from a casino premises into your home on your device. Online poker can be fast paced with some games averaging 100 hands played in just 1 hour.
A game of poker needs 2 players as a minimum. A poker hand usually consists of 5 cards and combinations range from five of a kind (the highest hand) to no pair (the lowest hand). In five of a kind there is a ‘straight flush’ with five cards of the same suit in sequence. Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10 is the best combination and is known as a royal flush. Hands also include, four of a kind, full house, flush, straight, three of a kind, two pairs, one pair and no pair (also known as ‘nothing’).
Poker betting requires chip management. Players put in an initial contribution to the betting pot before a game starts. Bets can be made in turn as the game moves to the players on the left over several rounds until every player has folded or remains ready to face the showdown and reveal their hand. The winning hand wins the chips.
